New York, NY – Automotus, a leader in curb management technology, is providing CurbSight cameras that are being tested as part of the New York City Department of Transportation’s (NYCDOT) efforts to explore innovative technologies to better understand curb performance and gather intelligence on curb functionality and use. The use of such technologies can assist with informing curb management decisions and increasing efficiency.
Automotus has installed Automotus CurbSight cameras at a pilot location, as part of a limited deployment, along Broadway between West 74th and West 75th Street and portions of West 74th Street between Broadway and West End Avenue. The system, comprising of the CurbSight cameras as well as the Automotus Curbsuite platform will provide the Department with a real-time dashboard and historical information to assess curb performance, activity and compliance. The system will leverage computer vision technology to monitor curbside activity in real time, gathering data on parking occupancy, vehicle dwell times, illegal parking, double parking, and overall traffic flow.
Similar programs and deployments of this technology have helped play a role in shaping future curb management policies and programs in other municipalities, including setting fees based on demand patterns and usage trends, as well as using such technologies for payment systems and enforcement. Ultimately, tools like Curbsight provide municipalities with tools to better manage and harness the value of the curb.
We’re thrilled to work with NYCDOT on this initiative,” said Jordan Justus, CEO of Automotus. “With cities facing increasing challenges in managing limited curb space, our technology enables municipalities to better understand how their streets are used, make informed policy changes that benefit businesses, residents, and the environment, and ultimately automate curb management to improve urban mobility.”
The testing of Automotus technology aligns with New York City’s broader goals of reducing traffic congestion and emissions through the use of innovative technologies and approaches while improving mobility for all road users.
